The timetables tell you what to teach, the lesson plans explain how to teach it. No timetables are provided for Years 5 and 6 as discrete handwriting lessons should no longer be required.

Teaching Manual Timetables

- Key Abilities Timetables

Each Route has its own progressive 6 week half-termly timetable to provide you with the flexibility of when to teach the lessons.

The top of the timetable shows the handwriting lesson warm up activities the children should do to build the gross and fine motor skills (Key Strengths) needed for handwriting. These are colour coded to identify which Key Strengths you are developing.

Underneath in the blue section are the specific handwriting lessons to be taught (Key Abilities). For the letter formation and joining lessons (as appropriate) the timetables specify which letters and joins should be taught. For the supporting activities of sitting, pencil grip and paper tilt the timetables specify when (if appropriate) they should be taught.

The majority of the lessons have been differentiated and so you choose which lesson level to teach your children.

To the right of the timetables there is additional guidance on the expected levels the children should be achieving and what should be expected of the children who are “working towards the expected level” or who are “working at a greater depth within the expected level”.

All the instructions are included within the manuals.

- Key Strength Activity Timetables

In addition to the Key Abilities timetables 6 week half term Key Strengths timetables are provided. These continue to develop and build the required Key Strengths through focused PE warm up, cool down and other cross curriculum activities

Handwriting Lesson Warm Up Exercises

Instructions for these exercises, designed to be completed sitting at a desk and taking no more than a couple of minutes, are included in the Teaching Manual and help build the Key Strengths needed for handwriting.

Gross & Fine Motor Skills (Key Strengths) Activities

Instructions for all the timetabled Key Strengths activities are provided. The activities are grouped and colour coded by the strength being developed.

Teaching Manual Lesson Plans

To help guide you through the lessons we have used a standard colour coded approach and icons to identify the teaching and learning approach being used.

Key Abilities Supporting Information

Background information on the teaching subject matter, general lesson information, lesson follow up suggestions and any Special Educational Needs (SEN) support ideas are provided at the beginning of each Key Ability Section

Teaching Manual Spelling Word Lists & Sentence Openers

Spelling Word Lists to develop single letter and joining skills are included together with Sentence Openers.

Dictation Sentences

To build speed and fluidity Dictation Sentence Lessons and differentiated Sentence Sets are included.

School Photocopy Licence

To allow the school to photocopy from the copyrighted Teaching Manuals, for non-commercial purposes only, we now include photocopying rights in the price. This is purely for the benefit of the school and only allows paper copying and not digital copying, transmitting or storing.
